Data Visualization

Data tells stories, transports us to new understandings, and illuminates what’s often misunderstood. I’ve always seen it as a tool for education and empowerment — a means of giving neighbors, friends, and loved ones the insights they need to navigate their own best paths. I also believe that effective data analysis and presentation should engage the senses, spark curiosity, and inspire reflection — helping people not just to learn, but to see the world from a fresh perspective.

Take a quick look at the data below, and you might start seeing the counties you pass on the way to the beach a little differently. Maybe you’ll still stop for gas—but you may also pause to wonder: as more people leave eastern North Carolina, what will remain 15 years from now?

Over the years, I’ve worked to visualize what numbers and research often struggle to convey. Creating these visuals has been deeply rewarding—not just for the design itself, but for the satisfaction of translating complex, system-driven socio-demographic outcomes into stories and conversations that everyday people can understand, share, and operationalize.
